Description

An abnormal liver removed at the time of transplantation undergoes gross and microscopic assessment using routine and possibly ancillary techniques, to understand the disease process.

Note:  Notify Histology (206) 987-2580 prior to removal from patient.  Weekends/Evenings: page on-call pathologist (206) 987-2131.  Fresh tissue (no fixative) must be delivered immediately to 8th floor lab CPA or Histology (OC.8.901) and given to someone's personal charge; identify it as a fresh specimen.

Liver explants should be received in a labeled size-appropriate specimen container which is within a red biohazard plastic bag.  Clinical history MUST accompany specimen to ensure proper handling. 

 

After 1700 or on weekends, please contact the pathologist on call (206) 987-2131 for specific handling instructions.
