Description

Intraoperative frozen sections are used to guide surgery.  Tissue should be sent fresh immediately to the laboratory where it is assessed by a pathologist using gross visualization and microscopic review of touch preparations and/or cryosections to inform surgeon about margins, tissue adequacy or other specific and relevant inqueries.

Note:  Attach pink frozen section sticker to requisition. Call Histo Lab (206) 987-2580.  Deliver specimens to the 8th floor lab CPA.  Notify CPA that it is a specimen for Frozen Section.  A completed surgical pathology request form including hospital number, name, date of birth, date of procedure, pre-op diagnosis, clinical history, ordering physician, and any other pertinent information must be submitted with the specimen

 

After 1700 notify pathologist on-call (206) 987-2131 prior to obtaining tissue.
