Sample Requirements

Specimen:  Body Fluid

Container(s):  Sterile Screw-Capped Container or Sterile Screw-Capped Tube or Syringe

Preferred Vol: 1.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 1.0 mL

Note:   PROTECT FROM UV LIGHT.  In-patients:  wrap paper towel around tube and seal with one piece of tape.  Off-site:  wrap tube in foil. Indicate type of body fluid on requisition.  Abdominal, ascites, body, and peritoneal in Gold SST or Red tubes are also acceptable. Method is affected by hemolysis. Specimen is stable under fluorescent lighting for up to 4 hours.

Off-site collection: Avoid hemolysis. Protect sample from light by wrapping tube in foil.  Refrigerate body fluid.

 

 

Off-site collection: PROTECT FROM UV LIGHT. Indicate type of body fluid on requisition. Centrifuge body fluid. Transfer 0.5 mL supernatant to plastic aliquot tube and refrigerate.
