Specimen:  Whole Blood

Container(s):  Gold SST, Red, Dark Green/Sodium Heparin, 1 Gold Microtainer, Lt. Green/Lithium Heparin Microtainer, or Red Microtainer

Preferred Vol: 1.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 0.5 mL

 

Note:   Avoid hemolysis.  Protect sample from light.  In-patients:  wrap paper towel around tube and seal with one piece of tape.  Off-site:  wrap tube in foil.  Specimen stable under fluorescent lighting for up to 4 hours.  Method is affected by exposure to UV light, gross hemolysis and lipemia (very slight lipemia OK).
