Description

Digoxin is a widely prescribed cardiac glycoside indicated in the treatment of congestive heart failure and supraventricular arrhythmias. Digoxin measurements are used to monitor patient compliance and therapy, and to diagnose potential overdose.

Sample Requirements

Specimen:  Whole Blood

Container(s):  Gold SST, Red Tube, Gold Microtainer

Preferred Vol:  1.0 mL

Minimum Vol:  0.5 mL  

 

Note:  Draw specimen immediately before next dose (within 30 minutes).  Avoid hemolysis. A hemoglobin level of 300 mG/dl causes a bias of -0.6. Test is also affected if patient is hypertensive, uremic, or a neonate. There is some cross-reactivity to DLIF. Digibind affects method. Method is not affected by moderate lipemia.
