Container(s): Sterile Screw-Top Containers for Body Fluid, UTM for Tissues and Swabs

Preferred Vol: N/A

Note: Body Fluids (BAL, respiratory washes, or sputum) should be in sterile screw-top containers. Tissue or swab must be in UTM. For NP site use a mid turbinate flocked swab, for all other swabbed sites use a regular flocked swab.

 

Only order with VCHG culture, FA is always performed in conjunction with HSV cultures. Scrape lesion to remove intact cells. Most viral infected cells will be at the base of the lesion. Submit flocked swabs in Universal Transport Media (UTM).

Saturday-Sunday & Holidays: Close batch in Mayo Access and courier to UW NW220. (Call on Holidays to be sure the lab is open to accept samples).
