Immature Platelet Fraction


The immature platelet fraction (IPF) measures reticulated platelets in peripheral blood. IPF levels rise as bone marrow production of platelets increases. Its measurement provides an assessment of bone marrow platelet production.

Sample Requirements

Specimen: Whole Blood

Container(s):  Lavender/EDTA, Heparinized Syringe

Preferred Vol:  1.0-3.0 mL

Minimum Vol:  0.5 mL microtainer; 1.0 mL macrotainer


Notes: A Lavender top/EDTA vacutainer must contain at least 1.0 mL.
