Test Code MPA Mycophenolic Acid

Clinical System Name

Mycophenolic Acid

Synonyms

MMF

CellCept

Sample Requirements

Specimen:Whole blood

Container(s): Lt. Green/Lithium Heparin, Dark Green/Sodium Heparin, Lavender/EDTA, Gold SST Microtainer, Red

Preferred Vol: 1.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 0.6 mL

Note:  Trough level preferred. Draw 30-60 min before next dose.  Serum or plasma must be removed from cells and gel separator within 20 h. Blood collection tubes (EDTA or heparin) must be at least 1/3 full. A high concentration of anticoagulant in underfilled tubes will cause overestimation of MPA concentration.

Methodology

Method: Enzyme immunoassay (CEDIA) by Vitros 4600

Analytical Volume: 0.25 mL plasma/serum

Limitations: Mycophenolic acid as measured by Cedia immunoassay may overestimate MPA concentration by 10-15% when compared with HPLC or LC/MS/MS. Overestimation may be higher in patients with renal failure. Blood collection tubes (EDTA or heparin) must be at least 1/3 full. A high  concentration of anticoagulant in underfilled tubes will cause overestimation of MPA concentration.
