Note: Trachael aspirate, sputum, pleural fluid and lung aspirate are acceptable specimens though their performance characteristics are still being determined. This test does not detect Bordetella parapertussis or Bordetella holmesii. If clinically indicated, consider ordering a "Bordetella by PCR" to detect these species and send a separate NP swab specimen without UTM transport medium.
