Offsite collection:  If specimen will not arrive at Children's before noon for same day testing, blood should be drawn as late in the day as possible, maintained at room temperature and sent overnight with first morning delivery to allow test set-up the following morning within the specimen stability window. See additional notes under 'Processing Instructions - Offsite Collection'.

Description

Immunology followup for positive SCID Newborn Screen ONLY - includes CD2, CD3, CD4, CD8, CD16, CD19, CD56, HLA-DR, CD4+CD45RA/RO and CD8+CD45RA/RO.

Sample Requirements

Specimen:  Whole Blood

Container(s):  Lavender/EDTA; Dk Green/Heparin also acceptable from referring labs if CBC & differential results submitted from same collection

Preferred Vol:  2 - 3 mL

Minimum Vol:  2 mL; no microtainers

 

Note:  Specimens received after 1430 will be held and testing will be performed the next working day.

Note:  Have Core Lab run specimen through hematology analyzer; send a copy of the results and copy of community services requisition (if applicable) with specimen to Cell Markers.

Storage location: Days:  Transport specimen, Core Lab results, and copy of community services requisition (if applicable), and labels to 10th floor Cell Markers (station #280).    Eves/Nights:  Store specimen, Core Lab results, and copy of community services requisition (if applicable), and labels in the Cell Markers RT box in CPA.

 

Off-site collection:  Keep whole blood at room temperature. If specimen will be greater than 24 hours old when received at Seattle Childrens, referring labs must send CBC w/differential results from the same collection along with specimen.  EDTA can be tested up to 30 hours, Heparin can be tested up to 48 hours.
