Description

This test has replaced the RPR Screen for diagnosis of syphilis.

 

Syphilis Screen is a treponemal testing procedure for the qualitative detection of antibodies to T. pallidum to aid in the diagnosis of syphilis.  Positive results are sent to both Washington State Laboratory and Mayo Medical Laboratories for confirmation with RPR titer.

Sample Requirements

Specimen: Whole Blood

Container(s): Gold SST, Red

Preferred Vol: 3.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 1.0 mL

 

Note: *3 mL is required to have enough specimen to send for both confirmation tests.

Reject due to: gross hemolysis or gross hemolysis

Aliquot: Y

Temp: -20 C

Storage location: Spin blood, transfer 1.5 mL serum to a plastic aliquot tube affixed with a large computer label. Freeze in CPA Freezer, Fz1 rack.

 

Off-site collection: Spin blood, transfer serum to a plastic aliqout container. Ship frozen.
