Container(s):  Sterile Screw-Capped Container, Sterile Screw-Capped Tube or Syringe

Preferred Vol: 1.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 0.1 mL

 

Note:  Abdominal, ascites, body, chest, peritoneal pleural and thoracent fluid in Gold SST or Red tubes are also acceptable.

Notes:  Aliquot 0.5 mL of well-mixed body fluid into a plastic aliquot tube and centrifuge. If a lipid layer is present, chemistry scientist should remove sample from cells and remix for a homogenous fluid before analyzing.

 

Off-site collection: Note type of body fluid on requisition. Centrifuge a well-mixed aliquot of body fluid; remove supernatant from cells. Refrigerate specimen 2-8oC.
