Sample Requirements

Specimen:  Whole Blood

Container(s):  Gold SST, Red, Dark Green/Sodium Heparin, Gold Microtainer, Lt. Green/Lithium Heparin, or Red Microtainer

Preferred Vol: 0.5 mL

Minimum Vol:  0.5 mL 

 

Note:  Protect sample from light.  In-patients:  wrap paper towel around tube and seal with one piece of tape.  Off-site:  wrap tube in foil.  Specimen stable under fluorescent lighting for up to 4 hours. This test is only available for liver transplant patients. The test includes Bilirubin Unconjugated, Conjugated, Delta & Total.

Method: Colorimetric by Vitros 4600

Minimum Volume: 60 ulL serum or plasma

Analytical Volume:  22 uL + 30 uL dead space

 

Method is affected by exposure to UV light, gross hemolysis and lipemia (very slight lipemia OK).
