Description

Useful in the nutritional assessment for Vitamin D status, specifically for patients supplemented with Vitamin D2 (this is not common). For general screening, and for those patients supplemented with Vitamin D3, consider ordering Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy Level which provides a total level.

Container(s): Gold SST, Red, Dark Green/Sodium Heparin, Lavendar/EDTA, Gold Microtainer, Lt. Green/ Lithium Heparin Microtainer

Preferred Vol: 1.5 mL

Minimum Vol: 1 mL

Vitamin D insufficiency 15 - 30 ng/mL
Vitamin D deficiency < 15 ng/mL

 

Note: Cord blood levels tend to be lower (30 - 50%) in the US. Levels of Vitamin D vary with exposure to sunlight, peaking in the summer in ambulatory individuals.
