Description

Useful in the nutritional assessment for Vitamin D status. This test provides a total Vitamin D measurement (25-OH Vitamin D2 and 25-OH Vitamin D3); if Vitamin D2 is used for supplementation (this is not common), consider ordering Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy Fractionated.

Sample Requirements

Specimen: Whole Blood

Container(s): Gold SST, Red, Gold Microtainer

Preferred Vol: 2 mL

Minimum Vol: 1 mL

Vitamin D insufficiency 15 - 30 ng/mL
Vitamin D deficiency < 15 ng/mL

 

Note: Cord blood levels tend to be lower (30 - 50%) in the US. Levels of Vitamin D vary with exposure to sunlight, peaking in the summer in ambulatory individuals.
