Test Code ANA Anti Nuclear Antibody Test (ANA)

Important Note

If ANA is POSITIVE, a reflex ANA titer is always performed.

"ANA Reflex" to additional ENA/dsDNA testing is not an orderable test at Seattle Children's Hospital.

Additional specific tests can be ordered at time of ANA collection, or, alternatively, all ANA serum is saved for 6 months.  If dsDNA/ENA testing is desired after initial ANA testing, order as an Add-on Communication in CIS or call laboratory (206) 987-2102.

Clinical System Name

Anti Nuclear Antibody Test

ANF (Anti Nuclear Factor)
Lupus Erythematosus (LE) Prep

This assay is used in the detection and semi-quantitation of autoantibodies to aid in the diagnosis of autoimmune disease, typically in the evaluation of systemic rheumatic or connective tissue diseases.  A negative test greatly reduces the likelihood of the diseases, but does not rule them out.
