Sample Requirements

Specimen: Whole Blood

Container(s): Red

Preferred Vol: 7 mL

Minimum Vol: 3 mL

 

Note: Do not draw into serum separator tubes. Do not refrigerate or place on ice. Samples should arrive at the BloodworksNW Immunogenetics Lab within 48 hours of the draw.  If sample delivery is delayed, call BWNW Immunogenetics Lab to confirm sample acceptability.

 

3 ml ACD and 3 mL Red Top can be shared for HLA Class I,II, Lymphocyte Crossmatch, and HLA Ab Detection when patient is having initial HLA Work-up.

 

Deliver specimen and BWNW Immunogenetics Requisition to the Lab.  Fill out entire form as completely as possible. Information on the label and requisition must match exactly.

Storage location: Use a BWNW Immunogenetics Requisition. Fill out as completely as possible, making sure the ordering provider is listed. Remove "Originator/Hospital" copy; place a large Cerner label in the top right corner. Deliver sample & requisition to the blood bank.

 

If order is marked STAT on requisition or is ordered STAT in CIS, send STAT to BWNW using Delivery Express. 

 

Off-site collection: Keep whole blood at room temperature and transport to Seattle Childrens.
