Sample Requirements

Specimen: Urine

Container(s): Sterile Screw-Capped Container

Preferred Vol:  12.0 mL fresh random urine

Minimum Vol:  5.0 mL

 

Notes: Urine samples should be refrigerated and promptly sent to Seattle lab after collection to avoid cell lysis. Urines older than 4 hours may be rejected. Stained slides of sediment will be examined for the presence of eosinophils. STOOL SAMPLES ARE UNACCEPTABLE.

Processing Instructions

Reject due to:  Insufficient quantity, incorrect storage temperature, age of specimen, gross contamination, specimens collected with cotton balls or gauze, specimens obtained from diapers, specimens sent in any preservative solution.
