Description

This test is for the detection of CMV in saliva. This test is used to quickly and effectively detect congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, a major cause of hearing loss in children.

 

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA is detected via nucleic acid amplification.

 

 

Sample Requirements

Specimen: Saliva

Container: Puritan Cap-Shure Sterile Flocked Collection Device with Aerated Tip Protector (Ref#25-3206-U EC)

Collection: Saturate swab with saliva. Avoid scraping mucosal cells. Collect saliva at least 1 hour after finishing breastfeeding.
Preferred Vol: N/A

Minimum Vol: N/A

Processing Instructions

CPA: Send sample to Microbiology.  

 

Off-site collection: Freeze and send frozen sample to SCH Microbiology Laboratory.

 

Reject due to: Specimen from patients >30 days of age. Specimen collected on ESwab, Specimen in UTM.
