Specimen: Tissue
Container(s): Saline-moistened gauze or telfa in sterile specimen container
Preferred size: >2.0 cm in total length
Minimum size: n/a
Note: FRESH (no fixative) kidney biopsy must be delivered immediately to to Histology (FB.4.555)
and given to someone's personal charge; identify it as a fresh specimen. Specific handling
instructions may be obtained from Histology at (206) 987-2580.
Specimen should be labeled with a valid Tissue Pathology Exam sticker.
After 1700, deliver specimens to Histology (FB.4.555) and place in the refrigerator. Notify the pathologist on call.
Off-site collection: Specific handling instructions may be obtained from Histology at (206) 987-2580. Biopsy should be divided , ensuring glomeruli are present in each piece. One portion frozen in OCT or submerged in Michel's transport media for IF, one piece diced into glutaraldehyde for EM (which is sent out) & the remainder in formalin for LM. Send frozen piece on dry ice. Send EM on wet ice.
