Note: Notify Histology (206) 987-2580 prior to collection. Weekends/Evenings: page on-call pathologist. Fresh tissue (no fixative) must be must be delivered immediately to Histology (FB.4.555)
and given to someone's personal charge; identify it as a fresh specimen. Specific handling
instructions may be obtained from Histology at (206) 987-2580.
For same-day results, liver biopsy must be in the Lab by 0900 and approval must be obtained by pathologist on-call.
After 1700, deliver specimens to Histology (FB.4.555) and place in the refrigerator and notify the pathologist on call.

Description
Needle core or wedge biopsy of liver is procured from native or allograft liver to assess etiology of altered function. Routine processing and histopathology is always performed with addition of EM, culture, mineral quantitation, etc. as necessitated by clinical setting.
