Specimen: Whole Blood or 24 Hour Urine

Container(s): Red, Gold SST, Lavender/EDTA or 24 Hour Urine Jug

Preferred Vol: 6 mL

Minimum Vol: 2 mL

 

Note: Patient should not be on aspirin, indomethacin, or anti-inflammatory medications, if possible, for at least 48 hours prior to collection of specimen. Urine - collect 24 hrs into container with no preservative, refrigerate during collection.

Storage location: Blood: Freeze 3 mL serum or plasma in a plastic tube affixed with a large computer label in the CPA freezer send-outs rack. Urine: Deliver entire urine collection to CPA refrigerator. Store copy of requisition in the send outs box on the CPA fridge.

 

Off-site collection: Blood:Freeze 3 mL serum or plasma in a plastic tube. Urine: Refrigerate urine sample during collection and storage. Send original container refrigerated.
