Note: Notify SCCA Pathology in advance of procedure (206) 288-1355. Pulmonary physicians should divide specimen for pathology, microbiology, and virology. If applicable, specify sites on sample and paperwork. Send specimens to the Lab immediately. Keep at room temperature.

Storage location: BAL samples will be sent to SCCA pathology for SCCA patients. Samples for Microbiology and Virology Labs will stay on CHRMC campus. Samples from different sites will be pooled for all tests unless otherwise specified.

Day shift: time stamp all paperwork. If there are fewer aliquots than requisitions, consult CHRMC Lab SCCA coordinator. Order VIR SPEC and deliver Micro samples as usual. Deliver SCCA/FH sample(s) and paperwork to SCCA coordinator immediately. After hours (5 pm): Refer to the "After hours specimen flow sheet" located in the specimen handling manual on CPA bookshelf.
