Note:Throat swab is preferred sample with membrane if present. Use an ENT swab for nasopharyngeal sample. Use a culturette for throat and possible diphtheric skin lesions. Specifically request culture for Diphtheria for all specimens submitted. Transport specimen to Lab in a ziplock bag with requisition in outer pocket. Sent to State Lab for culture.
