Note: Animals associated with an injury to children may be submitted as specimens to our laboratory prior to being sent to the public health laboratory for detailed investigation.

Storage location:The bag containing the dead animal should be secured with a biohazard bag and not opened awaiting the public health service laboratories instructions on how to ship or pick up. Have the patient's attending MD contact the public health authorities. In off hours, the biohazard bag should be frozen at -20 degrees and instructions left for day shift sendouts to contact the public health service.
