Preferred Vol: 2.0 mL
Minimum Vol: 0.5 mL
Note: Gastric samples are NOT available stat. For Gastric samples order a MISC and deliver sample to Sendouts refrigerator rack.

Storage location: Method is affected by prolonged exposure to RBC's. For Gastric Contents samples, order a MISC and deliver to Sendouts Refrigerator Box. Inform physician that testing will NOT be available stat but will have a 3-5 day turnaround time.
Spin sample. Transfer 2 mL supernatant to plastic aliquot container affixed with large computer label. Note type of body fluid on label. Notify send-outs team M - F dayshift and deliver specimen to CPA refrigerator send-outs rack. Store extra label in plastic box on the CPA fridge. When send-outs team is unavailable (evenings/nights/weekends, etc) send sample to UW Laboratory via delivery express.
Off-site collection: Spin, aliquot & refrigerate specimen.
