Description

For CMV PCR positive patients. UL97 for gancyclovir resistance. The UL54 test, for foscarnet/cidofovir resistance, is a send out test through CHRMC send out dept.

This test can be added onto a positive CMV DNA PCR Qual or Quant test, if sample still available (regardless of sample type).

Sample Requirements

Specimen: Whole Blood or CSF

Container(s): Lavender/EDTA or CSF Tube

Preferred Vol: 3.0 mL whole blood or 1.0 mL CSF

Minimum Vol:  1.0 mL whole blood or 0.5 mL CSF

Reject due to: Green top

Temp: -20 C

Storage location: Blood: Centrifuge within 24 hours of collection & aliquot serum/plasma. Deliver to CPA freezer.

CSF: Freeze within 2 hours of collection or ship immediately @ 4°C. If CSF has cells, centrifuge & aliquot clear CSF. Deliver to CPA freezer.

Monday – Friday: Place sample in the Virology Section of the Sendouts Freezer Rack.

Saturday-Sunday & Holidays: Close batch in Mayo Access and courier to UW NW220. Place a copy of the Transfer List (indicate time sent) in the Virology Transport Binder. (Call on Holidays to be sure the lab is open to accept samples).

 

Off-site collection: Blood: Centrifuge tube within 2 hours of collection & aliquot serum/plasma - Freeze @ -20°C
CSF: Freeze within 2 hours of collection or ship immediately @ 4°C. If CSF has cells, spin & aliquot clear CSF-Freeze @ -20°C.
