Specimen: Whole Blood

Container(s): Red, Gold SST, Dark Green/Sodium Heparin, or Lavender/EDTA

Preferred Vol: 3.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 1.0 mL whole blood in a sealed tube

 

Note: DO NOT OPEN TUBE. Fill tube by injecting blood through the stopper.

Processing Instructions

Reject due to: Hemolysis. Whole blood in red top > 24 hours old.

Spin: Y (If Red do not spin)

Aliquot: N

Temp: 2 - 4 C

Storage location: Allow to clot completely. Spin blood. DO NOT ALIQUOT SERUM. Affix large computer label to vacutainer and parafilm cap. Refrigerate specimen in CPA refrigerator send-out rack.

If red top do not spin, whole blood must be received at UW within 24 hours.
