Specimen: Whole Blood
Container(s): Red, Gold SST, Dark Green/Sodium Heparin, or Lavender/EDTA
Preferred Vol: 3.0 mL
Minimum Vol: 1.0 mL whole blood in a sealed tube
Note: DO NOT OPEN TUBE. Fill tube by injecting blood through the stopper.
Processing Instructions
Reject due to: Hemolysis. Whole blood in red top > 24 hours old.
Spin: Y (If Red do not spin)
Aliquot: N
Temp: 2 - 4 C
Storage location: Allow to clot completely. Spin blood. DO NOT ALIQUOT SERUM. Affix large computer label to vacutainer and parafilm cap. Refrigerate specimen in CPA refrigerator send-out rack.
If red top do not spin, whole blood must be received at UW within 24 hours.
Off-site collection: Specimen must remain sterile. Do not remove vacutainer cap to fill. Allow to clot completely. Spin blood. DO NOT ALIQUOT SERUM. Affix large computer label to vacutainer and parafilm cap. Refrigerate.
