Sample Requirements

Specimen: Whole Blood

Container(s): Red or CSF Tube

Preferred Vol: 6.0 mL blood or 2 mL CSF

Minimum Vol: 2.0 mL blood or 1.0 mL CSF

 

Note: Method is affected by disease status of the patient and by drug therapy. Not affected by freezing sample. EDTA is acceptable not preferred.

Storage location: Spin sample, transfer 1.0 - 2.0 mL serum or CSF supernatant to a plastic tube place inCPA freezer. Whole blood samples are stable for up to 24 hours refrigerated prior to centrifugation.

 

Off-site collection: Blood: Centrifuge, aliquot serum & Freeze @ -20°C
CSF: Freeze within 2 hours of collection or ship immediately @ 4°C. If CSF has cells, spin & aliquot clear CSF-Freeze @ -20°C. Transport frozen.
