Specimen:  CSF
Container(s): Sterile Screw-Capped Container, Sterile Screw-Capped Tube, or Syringe

Preferred Vol: 2.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 0.5 mL

 

Note: Note collection type on requisition and container (e.g. "LP" for CSF lumbar puncture.) Send to the lab immediately (within 1 hour) for accurate results. Cells start to lyse upon standing.

 

Lab testing is performed using the following tube designation, regardless of label on tube:

  3. Microbiology
  4. Cell Counts and Cytology
