Container(s): Sterile Screw-Capped Container or Universal Transport Media

Preferred Vol: TWO pea size myocardial samples

Minimum Vol: N/A

 

Note: Submit TWO pea size myocardial samples in sterile container or viral transport media (One for Enterovirus and one for ADV, B19, CMV, EBV and HSV). Promptly send myocardial samples in sterile container or UTM to the main lab.

Notify Histology immediately after specimen arrives in Lab. Contact the on-call pathologist for instructions if Histology is unavailable.

Monday – Friday: Place sample in the Virology Section of the Sendouts Freezer Rack.

Saturday-Sunday & Holidays: Close batch in Mayo Access and courier on dry ice to UW NW220. Place a copy of the Transfer List (indicate time sent) in the Virology Transport Binder.

 

Off-site collection: Freeze samples and send frozen.
