Container(s): Sterile Screw-Capped Container, Sterile Screw-Capped Tube, Syringe, Gold SST, Red

Preferred Vol: 0.5 mL

Minimum Vol: 0.25 mL

 

Note: Note type of body fluid on requisition. Abdominal, ascites, body, chest, pericardial, and peritoneal fluid is acceptable.

Notes: Chemistry scientist should refer to procedure for blood amylase if fluid is proteinaceous. Otherwise, refer to amylase urine procedure.

 

Off-site collection: Note type of body fluid on requisition. Specimen should be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection. Spin body fluid and transfer supernatant to plastic tube and refrigerate.
