Notes: Paired samples preferred. If only urine is available, we will still send it out.

Processing Instructions

Reject due to: Do not collect in or on diapers or cotton balls (Urine). Grossly hemolyzed (Serum).

Spin: N (Urine), Y (Serum)

Temp: -20 C

Storage Location: Transfer urine to a plastic Nalgene bottle affixed with a large Epic label. Do not add any preservatives. Spin blood, place serum in a plastic aliquot tube affixed with a large Epic label. Immediately freeze both samples in the -20 CPA freezer Send Outs rack.

 

Off-site Collection: Ship frozen samples to Seattle Children's Main Lab.

This test is used to screen for inborn errors in bile acid synthesis and metabolism. Results may be difficult to interpret if ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) has been administered. Specimens should be collected prior to administration of UDCA, or after 5 days off UDCA.
