Specimen:  Whole Blood

Container(s):  Gold SST, Gold Microtainer, Red 

Preferred Vol: 1.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 0.5 mL  

 

Note:  Draw specimen immediately before next dose (within 30 minutes).  Avoid hemolysis. A hemoglobin level of 300 mG/dl causes a bias of -0.6. Test is also affected if patient is hypertensive, uremic, or a neonate. There is some cross-reactivity to Digoxin-Like Immunoreactive Factors (DLIF). Digibind affects method. Method is not affected by moderate lipemia.

Description

Digoxin is a widely prescribed cardiac glycoside indicated in the treatment of congestive heart failure and supraventricular arrhythmias. Digoxin measurements are used to monitor patient compliance and therapy, and to diagnose potential overdose.
