Preferred Vol: 0.5 mL

Minimum Vol: 0.25 mL

 

Note: Note type of body fluid on requisition. Send to the lab immediately for accurate results. Method is affected by exposure to RBC's (longer than 15 minutes). Place specimen in outside pocket of a pre-filled biohazard bag of ice, then put into a separate biohazard bag for transport.

Notes: Body fluid must be removed from red blood cells within 15 minutes for an accurate lactic acid level.

 

Off-site collection: Note type of body fluid on requisition. Place on ice after collection. Specimen should be centrifuged within 15 minutes of collection. Spin body fluid and transfer supernatant to plastic tube and refrigerate or freeze.
