Specimen:  Body Fluid

Container(s): Sterile Screw-Capped Container, Sterile Screw-Capped Tube, Syringe, Gold SST, Red

Preferred Vol: 1.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 0.5 mL

 

Note: Note type of body fluid on requisition. Analytes included are sodium and potassium. Potassium is affected by hemolysis. For stool, sample must be watery diarrhea. Specimen cannot be a formed stool.

Off-site collection: For stool, sample must be watery diarrhea. Specimen cannot be a formed stool. Specimen should be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection. Spin body fluid and transfer supernatant to plastic tube and refrigerate or freeze. Indicate specimen type on requisition.
