Important Note

Important Note:

1. Call the Main Lab (ext. 7-2102) prior to biopsy if it is known tissue will need to go to UW for culture. If it is not known until the endoscopy is being performed that cultures are desired, please call immediately after the procedure to inform the lab that tissue will need to go to UW for culture.

2. Take at least one biopsy from the antrum and one biopsy from the body for culture and collect these biopsies prior to any biopsies being taken for formalin fixation.

3. Transport the specimen in Universal Transport Media (UTM) or a sterile container directly to the Main Lab after collection.

4. CPA / Send Outs: Notify UW Client Support Services at (206) 520-4600 of the incoming sample. Send immediately via DIRECT Delivery Express courier.

H. pylori organisms rapidly lose viability, so immediate transport is important. If specimen is older than 3 hours, organisms may be non-viable.
