Important Note

For STAT specimens to be processed immediately at BWNW Immunogenetics/HLA Laboratory, an SCH provider must call BWNW Immunogenetics/HLA Lab for approval, otherwise STAT specimen will be performed on next run.

 

Once STAT testing has been approved, contact the Main Lab at ext. 7-2102 and ask for the sample to be sent out STAT via Delivery Express.

Specimen: Whole Blood

Preferred Vol: 5.0 - 7.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 3.0 mL

 

Note: NO SERUM SEPARATOR TUBES. A BWNW Immunogenetics/HLA Laboratory Requisition must be complete and accompany specimen to lab. Do not use serum separator tubes. Do not refrigerate or place on ice. Samples must arrive at BWNW Immunogenetics/HLA Lab within 10 days from the date of collection. If sample delivery is delayed, contact BWNW Immunogenetics/HLA Lab to confirm specimen acceptability.

Storage Location: Use a BWNW Immunogenetics/HLA Laboratory Requisition. Fill out as completely as possible, making sure the ordering provider is listed. Remove "Originator/Hospital" copy; place a large Cerner label in the top right corner. Deliver the bagged sample and requisition to the room temperature Send Outs rack.

 

Note: If order is marked STAT on requisition OR is ordered STAT in CIS; send STAT to BWNW (921 Terry Ave) via Delivery Express.

 

Off-site collection: Keep whole blood at room temperature and transport to Seattle Children's.
