Test Code LAB3384 Platelet Aggregation
Clinical System Name
Platelet Aggregation
Sample Requirements
Specimen: Whole blood
Container(s): Lt. Blue/Citrate and Lavender/EDTA
Preferred Vol: (4) 2.7 mL Lt. Blue/Citrate tubes and (1) Lavender/EDTA tube
Minimum Required Vol: (3) 2.7 mL Lt. Blue/Citrate tubes and 1.0 mL in macrotainer or 0.5 mL in microtainer Lavender/EDTA tube
Note: This test MUST be scheduled with the core lab coagulation department prior to collection. Samples will not be accepted if test is not scheduled in advance.
Preferred method of collection is venipuncture with vacuum fill. Test results are affected by incorrect blood volume. A 21 gauge or larger needle is recommended, however if the patient is less than 4 years old, a smaller gauge needle can be used. No syringe and collect a clearing tube first. Thoroughly mix sample by gently inverting 4-5 times.
Do NOT use tube system to transport samples. Samples must be hand carried to the laboratory. Do not handle the samples roughly. Testing must be performed within 3 hours of collection. Sample cannot be used for any other testing.
Collect a clearing tube, and then 4- 2.7ml blue top (3.2% sodium citrate) tubes, followed by a purple top (EDTA) tube. Place the citrate tubes in a rack in the order drawn.
Processing Instructions
Reject due to:
- Hemolyzed, clotted, or inadequately filled samples.
- Specimen tubes sent to the lab via the pneumatic tube transport system.
- Specimen tubes that have been refrigerated, centrifuged, or greater than 3 hours old.
- Samples sent without prior scheduling with the performing department.
Spin: N
Aliquot: N
Storage location: Core 5 Fridge
Note: Deliver blood to Core Heme bench (next to TEG rack). Coag Technologist will process.
Do not centrifuge specimen. Test should be set up within 3 hours of collection.
Off-site collection: Cannot be collected outside Seattle Children's Main Campus. Do NOT collect at Seattle Children's Regional Clinic locations. Contact Laboratory for additional information.

Description
The Chrono - Log Model 700 is used to aid in the detection of platelet dysfunction using impedance to determine the ability of the platelets to aggregate, and luminescence to determine the qualitative functionality of the platelet granules.
