Specimen: Whole Blood

Container(s): Lavender/EDTA or Red (Not Preferred)

Preferred Vol: 7.0 mL

Minimum Vol: 7.0 mL

 

*Pediatric Minimum Vol: 1 full 3.0 mL Lavender/EDTA tube

*Neonate Minimum Vol: 2 full 0.5 mL Lavender/EDTA microtainers

 

Note: NO GEL SEPARATORS. Please call the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory at (206) 689-6525 prior to collecting sample. Complete a BWNW Compatibility Testing Laboratory RFT. A red top is acceptable though not preferred. SAMPLE MUST BE KEPT AT BODY TEMPERATURE AT ALL TIMES. After collection, immediately place tube in an activated disposable infant heel warmer. Send the specimen and the completed requisition to the lab IMMEDIATELY.

Storage location: PROCESS SAMPLE IMMEDIATELY. Sample must be kept at 37 C at all times. Spin blood, transfer plasma/serum into a plastic aliquot tube labeled with a large Epic label, and place in the room temperature Send Outs rack. Notify Send Outs wet bench personnel or the Send Outs department. Use BWNW Compatibility Testing Laboratory RFT. Fill out as completely as possible. Place a large Epic label in the top right corner.
