Sample Requirements
Specimen: Whole Blood or CSF
Container(s): Lavender/EDTA or CSF Tube
Preferred Vol: 3.0 mL Whole Blood or 1.0 mL CSF
Minimum Vol: 1.0 mL Whole Blood or 0.5 mL CSF
Note: This test can share a tube with other Viral PCR testing but a separate tube needs to be collected if Hematology (CBC, Platelet, ESR, etc) testing is ordered.

Reject due to: Dark Green/Sodium Heparin

Temp: -20 C
Storage Location: Spin blood within two hours of collection, transfer 1.0 mL of plasma to a plastic aliquot and put into Send Outs rack of the CPA -20 freezer. Aliquot and freeze CSF within two hours of collection if possible (can be refrigerated up to 48 hours).
Monday – Friday: Place sample in the Virology rack in the CPA freezer.
Saturday-Sunday & Holidays: Close batch in Mayo Access and courier to UW NW220.
Off-site Collection:
- Blood: Centrifuge tube within two hours of collection, aliquot plasma, and freeze at -20°C.
- CSF: Freeze within two hours of collection or ship immediately at 4°C. If CSF has cells, spin and aliquot clear CSF, then freeze at -20°C.
