Description

CSF Oncology Hold Samples are for future clinical and/or research purposes.  Samples are held indefinitely until requested by provider.  Do not store with RLS samples.

Sample Requirements

Specimen:  Cerebral Spinal Fluid

Container(s):  CSF Tube, Sterile Screw-Capped Container, Sterile Screw-Capped Tube or Syringe

Preferred Vol:  5 mL

Minimum Vol:  3 mL

 

Note:  Send to lab immediately (within 1 hour) for time-sensitive processing.

Processing Instructions

Reject due to:  N/A

Spin: Spin original CSF tube at 1800 RPM (500g) (adjust centrifuge speed) for 10 minutes in the CPA room temp centrifuge. 

Aliquot: 

  1. Transfer supernatant into a 15 mL Falcon tube
  2. Label the 15 mL Falcon tube with the aliquot label and write Supernatant on it.
  3. The original CSF tube containing the pellet should be labeled with the CSF Onco Hold collection label. Write "Pellet" on it.
  4. Store both tubes upright in the CPA -70 C, shelf 2, CSF ONCO HOLD rack.

Storage Location:  CPA -70 C, shelf 2, CSF ONCO HOLD rack.
