Description
UW-OncoPlex is a multiplexed mutation assay for tumor tissue that assesses mutations >350 genes related to cancer treatment, prognosis, or diagnosis. The test uses next-generation "deep" sequencing to detect most classes of mutations, including single nucleotide variants, small insertions and deletions (indels), gene amplifications, and selected gene-fusions.
Microsatellite instability (MSI) status and total mutation burden (TMB) is reported for relevant cancer cases. This test is designed to detect somatic mutations in cancer, and is not designed to detect germline (heritable) mutations.
Sample Requirements
Specimen Type: Peripheral Blood, Bone Marrow, Tumor Tissue, Purified DNA
Specimen Type: Tissue Samples Send EITHER (a) tissue block, OR (b) curls, OR (c) slides:
(a) Instructions for tissue block specimen:
Provide complete tissue block containing tumor tissue.
If there is more than one tissue block, please provide the block that has the greatest amount of tumor tissue. Tissue block will be returned at completion of testing.
(b) Instructions for specimen curls:
1 slide at 4-micron thickness stained with hematoxylin-and-eosin AND
15 curls at 10-micron thickness
Note: Curls should contain at least 20% tumor tissue.
(c) Instructions for slide specimens:
1 slide at 4-micron thickness stained with hematoxylin-and-eosin AND
15 unstained, non-baked slides at 10-micron thickness (a minimum of 10 unstained slides is acceptable).
Unstained slides can be on charged or uncharged slides.
Note: Sections should contain at least 20% tumor tissue.
Specimen: Extracted DNA
Container(s): Sterie plastic tube
Preferred Vol: 5 µg. Reference hematoxylin-and-eosin stained slide and pathology report required.
Minimum Vol: 2 µg
Specimen: Blood
Container(s): Lavender Top/EDTA
Preferred Vol: 6 mL
Specimen: Bone Marrow
Container(s): Lavender Top/EDTA
Preferred Vol: 1 to 2 mL Bone Marrow
Unacceptable: Decalcified samples; tissue samples treated with fixatives other than formalin.
Note: If collecting bone marrow, the sample must be drawn in a Lavender/EDTA tube.
