Description
The UW Clinical Virology Laboratory in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology incorporates the modified FDA approved Panther Fusion® assay for the detection and identification of multiple respiratory viral pathogens.

Sample Requirements
Specimen: Aspirate, Bronchial Lavage, Anterior Nares Swab, Nasopharyngeal (NP) Swab, Oropharyngeal (OP) Swab, or Wash
Container(s): Sterile Screw-Capped Container or Universal Transport Media (UTM)
Preferred Vol: 3.0 mL
Minimum Vol: 0.75 mL
Note: Acceptable sample types include: BAL, Nasal Wash, or NP swab. NP sample should be collected using a mid turbinate flocked swab, promptly placed in Universal Transport Media (UTM).

- Monday - Friday: Place sample in the CPA refrigerator, Send Outs rack.
- Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays: Close batch in MayoACCESS and send via Delivery Express to Eastlake Virology.
- Note: Call on holidays to confirm that the lab is open to accept samples.
Off-site Collection: Refrigerate specimen within four hours of collection. Transport refrigerated.
