Test Code LAB3933 Bacterial Vaginosis Nucleic Acid Detection
Synonyms
BV, BVAG, vaginitis, vaginosis
Description
Nucleic acid amplification test that utilizes real time transcription-meditated amplification (TMA) for detection of and quantification of ribosomal RNA from bacteria associated with bacterial vaginosis (BV), including Lactobacillus (L. gasseri, L. crispatus and L. jensenii), Gardnerella vaginalis, and Atopobium vaginae.
Results are qualitatively reported as positive, negative or indeterminant based on a proprietary algorithm.
To test for both Candida and Trichomonas, see Vulvovaginal Candida and Trichomonas Nucleic Acid Detection [CVTVAD]. For Trichomonas only, see Trichomonas vaginalis Amplified Nucleic Acid Detection [TRICAD].
