Test Code LAB5026 COVID-19 Antibody, Nucleocapsid IgG
Additional Codes
COVID Nucleo
Description
The Abbott Architect SARS-CoV-2 IgG assay, run under an emergency use authorization from the FDA, is a qualitative test designed to detect IgG antibodies to the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2 in serum and plasma from patients who are suspected of past coronavirus disease (COVID-19) or in serum and plasma of subjects that may have been infected by SARS-CoV-2.
Assay Notes:
- This assay detects response to nucleocapsid, the vaccines induce responses to the spike protein, therefore the currently available Abbott SARS-CoV-2 IgG immunoassay will not detect response to vaccine.
 - However, the newer Abbott SARS-CoV-2 IgG II immunoassay does detect antibodies to the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. This assay is orderable as COVID-19 Antibody, Spike IgG (LAB3719). This immunoassay will detect response to vaccine, as well as past infection.

 - Samples should be collected at least 21 days after onset of symptoms, to avoid potential false negative results.
 - Clinical indication for testing is limited to patients with COVID-19 like symptoms who tested negative by PCR or who were not tested.
