Sample Requirements
Specimen: Whole blood
Container(s): Lavender/EDTA or Red or Gold SST
Preferred Vol: 6.0 mL
Minimum Vol: 2.0 mL
Note: This test can share a tube with other Viral PCR testing but a separate tube needs to be collected if Hematology (CBC, Platelet, ESR, etc) testing is ordered.

Reject due to: Dark Green/Sodium Heparin tube or CSF

Storage location: Spin blood within 2 hours of collection, and transfer plasma to a plastic aliquot tube affixed with a large computer label.
Monday – Friday: Place sample in the Virology Section of the Sendouts Freezer Rack.
Saturday-Sunday & Holidays: Close batch in Mayo Access and courier to Virology. Place a copy of the Transfer List (indicate time sent) in the Virology Transport Binder. (Call on Holidays to be sure the lab is open to accept samples).
Off-site collection: Spin sample, freeze serum in plastic aliquot container. Ship frozen.
