This test requires a previous positive RpdUpperResp or RpdLowerResp PCR.

For BAL, Nasal wash or other respiratory specimens with QUALitative results, order RpdLowerResp or RpdUpperResp.

For bone marrow aspirate, tissue, and other specimen types on swabs with QUALitative results, order ADVQLT tissue/cell/swab.

Whole Blood:  Lavender/EDTA (preferred), Red Top

 

Preferred Vol: 1.0 mL Fluid, 3.0 mL Blood

Minimum Vol: 0.5 mL

Processing Instructions

Whole Blood: Separate plasma/serum from whole blood within 24 hours of collection.  Freeze plasma at -20 C.  Do not freeze/thaw.

 

BAL / CSF / Non-Cellular Fluid: Freeze at -20 C.  Do not freeze/thaw.

 

Reject due to: Presence of cellular material (ADVQLT should be ordered for cellular fluids), plasma collected in sodium or lithium heparin

Note:

Monday - Friday: Place sample in the Send Outs rack in the CPA -20 freezer.

Saturday - Sunday and Holidays: Close batch in MayoACCESS and courier on dry ice to UW NW220.  (Call on Holidays to be sure the lab is open to accept samples).

 

Off-Site Collection: Freeze within TWO hours of collection. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles. If no freezer is available, ship at 4 C. Ship time is not to exceed 48 hours.
