- Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL)
- Brochial Washings
Sample Volume: 5-10 mL preferred volume, minimum 2 mL
Processing Instructions
CPA: Forward all specimens to Microbiology for processing.
Microbiology: Keep refrigerated and process sample for setting up AFB culture. Complete UW requisition and hand off processed sediment to Send Outs (or CPA after hours). Samples should be sent to HMC same day.
Send Outs: Send out Monday - Friday with the UW courier unless SCH Microbiology has indicated STAT testing. If STAT testing is indicated, send DIRECT to HMC GWH 47 via Delivery Express courier. AFTER HOURS/WEEKENDS: Batch order to UW or send with manual requisition via DLX courier to HMC GWH 47.
