Sample Requirements
Specimen: Nasopharyngeal (NP) Swab, Midturbinate (MT) Swab, (Oropharyngeal Swab accepted but not preferred), Anterior Nasal swab (only asymptomatic patients should use anterior nasal collections for SARS-CoV-2. Symptomatic patients should still have middle turbinate (MT) or nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs collected.)
Container: Swab in Universal Transport Media or Viral Transport Media
Preferred Vol: N/A
Minimum Vol: N/A
Collection: Please consult the Photo Swab Guide to determine which swab to collect.
Note: Dry Swabs, Nasal Wash, Tracheal Aspirate, and Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) in UTM are NOT FDA-cleared specimen types for Cepheid Flu/RSV/Covid PCR assay. Order "Rapid Lower Respiratory Viral/Bacterial PCR Panel" and "COVID-19 PCR Qualitative" tests for these samples.

Description
Rapid multiplex PCR for detection of Flu A, Flu B, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and SARS-CoV-2.
This test provides rapid results to identify patients infected with Influenza A, Influenza B, RSV, and COVID.
See Rapid Upper Respiratory Viral/Bacterial PCR Panel if testing for additional viruses and/or atypical bacteria.

Limitations
Negative results do not preclude SARS-CoV-2 infection and should not be used as the sole basis for patient management decisions.
Recent patient exposure to FluMist or other live attenuated influenza vaccines may cause inaccurate positive results.
This test is not intended to differentiate Influenza A subtypes or Influenza B lineages. If differentiation of specific influenza subtypes and strains is needed, additional testing, in consultation with state or local public health departments, is required.
Assay does not include Flu A subtype identification.
